Why We Ride: It Was Never Just About the Motorcycle.

About This Episode
In Episode 10 of Garage Talks by Daditude, we're getting back to where much of this started for me: motorcycles, dirt, trails, family, community, and what happens when you step outside your everyday environment and twist the throttle for a while. I spent roughly ten hours aboard a Honda TransAlp 750, riding everything from pavement to trails alongside a group of guys who barely knew each other that morning. Somewhere between the trails, hills, mistakes, laughs, wipeouts and conversations, I remembered why powersports have always belonged inside Daditude. Motorcycles don't fix people. Twisting the throttle doesn't magically repair whatever you're carrying. Motorcycles can put you in an environment where, for a little while, everything else shuts up, and when the engines turn off, something interesting happens. People talk. That's where the real story begins. My relationship with Trail Tours started with a cold call to owner Steve back in 2023. I was trying to get Daditude established in the powersports industry and looking for motorcycles, properties, relationships and opportunities to create experiences for fathers and their kids. Instead, that phone call eventually gave me a friend. A fellow family man. A fellow follower of Christ. Somebody I've developed a tremendous amount of respect for. Today, Trail Tours gives kids their first motorcycle experiences through Honda's Junior Red Riders program, helps adults learn to ride, develops experienced riders, runs ADV experiences and gives families an opportunity to experience powersports without having to own all the equipment themselves. That's why this episode belongs in the garage because motorcycles teach things that extend far beyond motorcycles. Confidence. Responsibility. Awareness. Critical thinking. Camaraderie. Trust. They simply give your mind somewhere else to be for a while. I realized something during that ride that I hadn't articulated quite this way before: For much of my life, I rode motorcycles to run away. The faster I went, the closer I thought I was getting to whatever I was looking for. I've learned something else along the way: It's not what you ride. It's that you ride. So maybe the motorcycle was never the destination. Maybe it was the doorway.
